"Turkey's purchase of Russian high-tech equipment such as the S-400 poses serious challenges for us," Trump said at a joint news conference with Erdogan after their meeting in Washington. "We are always discussing this issue.
Trump expressed the hope that the two countries would be able to resolve the issue, noting that they had asked their foreign ministers to immediately begin work on resolving the issue.
For his part, Erdogan stressed that Turkey and the United States can overcome differences over the organizations "S-400" and the program of the "F-35" US fighter through dialogue.
Trump described Turkey as a "great ally" in NATO, praising the increase in defense spending to 2% of GDP.
He stressed that the alliance between the United States and Turkey is important for NATO and the entire Middle East.
He praised Turkey's role in fighting terrorism, saying that "President Erdogan is fighting terrorism as the United States."
On Syria, Trump said it was emphasized during his meeting with Erdogan that Turkey "will continue to abide by what it must do" in Syria.
For his part, Erdogan expressed his intention to open a new page in relations with the United States.
